The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) is pleased to announce the opening ofPort of Call, the first exhibition of faculty work since the School opened in 2005. Organized by guest curator and gallery consultant to ADM, Robert B. Epp, Port of Call includes more than 40 works by 27 full-time and visiting faculty representing ADM across six majors in Digital Animation, Digital Filmmaking, Interactive Media, Photography and Digital Imaging, Product Design and Visual Communications, as well as the Foundation areas of Art History and Studio Painting.
Installed over two large galleries, the exhibition is an exciting opportunity to see the research and work being done by a multi-talented faculty originating from Singapore and countries around the globe. For many of the faculty members, ADM is their latest port of call, following successful careers in industry and various teaching posts at foreign universities. They bring to the School an impressive list of professional and academic credentials, lengthy resumes filled with a history of solo and group exhibitions, publications and honours.
Port of Call is an invitation to see award-winning book design, as well as innovative graphic and commercial product design. It includes recent paintings, prints and photographs that respond to the culture and geography of Singapore, among other themes. These works are featured alongside experimental, interactive media installations, animation videos, and generative movies that take advantage of the most recent developments in digital technology. Segments from feature length films, punchy music videos and inventive advertising commercials are also highlighted in a special screening room for the exhibition.
Robert B. Epp has been engaged by ADM to consult on the upcoming renovations of the ADM gallery that will transform it into a professional climate-controlled art exhibition facility.
He is currently on leave from his position as gallerist at Gallery One One One at the University of Manitoba, School of Art in Winnipeg, Canada, where he oversees the administration of the Gallery, co-ordinates the exhibition program and manages its permanent collection.
Epp has over 25 years experience as an art administrator, curator, and independent art consultant. He has organized exhibitions in Canada and Australia, and managed numerous touring exhibitions to Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the USA.
